AMERICAN PAINT-DECORATED BALLOON-BACK ROCKING CHAIR. Second quarter 19th century. The shaped balloon back centering a vasiform splat joined to scrolling arms centering the shaped seat with rolled frontal seat rail, on turned splayed legs joined to rockers. All stencil- and paint-decorated with fruit- and nut-filled urn on a chocolate brown ground. SIZE: 42″ h. of back. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: In original condition, some paint losses overall due to age. 9-93551 (300-500)
