10-PIECES OF NIPPON MORIAGE TABLEWARES. Late 19th through mid 20th century. Japan. 7″ tall floral decorated cookie jar with lid, the sides ribbed with overall polychrome enamel decoration. 5.5″ tall mug decorated overall with iris in art nouveau style, applied with a diagonal scrolled handle. Matching creamer and covered sugar with Japanese calligraphy in underglaze blue, decorated overall with pastel enamels, gilt panels painted with floral sprays, 3″ h and 3.75″ h respectively. 5″ pale green and cream milk pitcher with opposing panels each decorated with calligraphy. 3.25″ high sugar bowl with scrolling handles decorated with enamel flowers and moriage spiderwebs. We believe this was once fitted with a cover. 4.25″ pale blue creamer with green scrolling handle applied overall moriage leaf tips. 4.25″ pink sugar bowl with floral painted panels (now missing lid). 3.25″ pale green and pink shaped rose bowl. 3″ hair receiver applied with wheat blooms amongst purple flowers. All unmarked unless noted. SIZE: See above. PROVENANCE: From a private Waterville, Maine home. CONDITION: Tight vertical hairline on rim of mug, sugar with old damage and reassembly of lid, hair receiver with shallow chip to rim of base. Otherwise generally very good with small minimal and minor losses to moriage. 9-24930 (300-500)
