UNSIGNED (European, 19th C) THE SCOLDING. Large oil on canvas interior scene shows three young boys in front of an elderly couple with mother looking on. A policeman stands next to them, obviously having brought them from a wrongful deed. Grandmother holds white cat, grandfather holds long pipe. Good interior details throughout the painting. Housed in a magnificent gilt gesso decorated frame. One 4” section of decoration missing. Label affixed to back of frame “G Meyer Philadelphia, PA”. SIZE: 29” x 36”. CONDITION: craquelure, one filled 1” chip, otherwise very good. A fine painting by a very competent artist. 9-97773 (3,000-5,000)
