THREE MATCHING ROD-BACK WINDSOR CHAIRS, PROBABLY RHODE ISLAND. Circa 1794. The two side chairs and one matching armchair having a horizontal rectangular crest rail above seven simulated bamboo spindles, the stiles with rounded knopped finials joined to the shaped chamfered saddle seat with incised edges, raised on raked simulated bamboo legs joined by a similar box stretcher. Two of the three chairs clearly marked, incised, and painted beneath the seat “PARADISE FARM 1794” above the initials “J.L.E.”, standing for John L. Easton, Jr. SIZE: Armchair: 34-1/4″ h. of back. Side chair: each 33-1/2″ h. of back. PROVENANCE: By descent through the family to the current owner. CONDITION: All originally painted, now stripped and refinished and with varying colors and patinas. 9-93290 (600-900)
