AMERICAN SACK-BACK WINDSOR ARMCHAIR. Second half 18th century. The bowed crest rail above seven splayed spindles, the median rail continuing to shaped flattened hand rests joined to the shaped saddle seat, raised on baluster-turned splayed legs, joined by a swelled ‘H’ stretcher. SIZE: 37″ h. of back. 16-1/2″ h. of seat. PROVENANCE: From a fine home in Bucksport, Maine. CONDITION: Chair retains old worn surfaces. Crest rail probably professionally replaced. Old break to one back spindle proper left side. 9-93151 (800-1,200)
