PAIR OF SCHERENSCHNITTE PICTURES. Mid 19th century, probably Pennsylvania. Believed to be by the same hand, these well-detailed papercut images complemented with fine calligraphy. The first with a central script panel inscribed “Blossoms are scattered/ By the wind, and the wind/ Cares nothing, but the/ Blossoms of the heart/ No wind can touch~“. Surrounded by cut images of hearts, angels, tulips, etc. Initialed in script “JOT” lower right corner facing. Mounted in a period black-painted molded frame on a blue papered backing. The second work has a circular image depicting a house flanked by large trees, songbirds in their branches, hearts cut out in their bases on a blue backing with the inscription around the perimeter reading “A house is a home when love moves in.” three times. Housed within a heavy molded frame. SIZE: Sight: 7-1/2″ x 9-1/2″ and 7-1/2″ dia. respectively. CONDITION: Structurally very good, both with some toning. 9-29171 (500-800)
