TWO MEISSEN FIGURAL GROUPS. Mid 19th-first quarter 20th century, German. First group depicting two putti at play with military accoutrements. First playing a drum, empty Roman military tunic against his back. Second seated on shield and wearing plumed helmet. Posed on grassy plinth. Incised “C 40” and impressed “50”. With crossed swords in underglaze blue. Second piece depicting young girl inspecting arrows from her bonnet leaning against marble pedestal. Decorative elements of her dress in “lace dresden”. Incised “F32” and impressed “127”. Marked in red paint “12”. With crossed swords in underglaze blue. SIZE: 1) 5-1/2″ h x 5-1/2″ l. 2) 6″ h. PROVENANCE: From a fine New Jersey home. CONDITION: 1) Loss of drumsticks, loss to leaf tips beneath drum and behind figure. Second figure with loss of left wing, loss to both ends of element beneath right arm and loss to element to left of figure by shield. Otherwise good. 2) With losses to edges of lacework, notably on borders of dress and with some losses to lace on head. Otherwise good. 9-24524 (800-1,200)
