NORTHWEST COAST CARVED BONE BELT BUCKLE. Alaska. It is believed this carving was taken from a fragment of Mastodon bone where it was discovered protruding from a glacier. Carving depicts bust of a bear. Now mounted in hand made silver buckle. SIZE: 3-1/4″ l x 2-1/2″ w. PROVENANCE: Purported to have been traded to manager of a restaurant in exchange for a meal who had the carving mounted as a buckle and subsequently gifted to current owner. CONDITION: Overall very good with undisturbed patina and good color. 9-24045 (700-900)
