SCRIMSHAW WALRUS TUSK. Mid-20th century, American. Titled “SUNBEAM OF NEW BEDFORD.” Flanked by a heart inscribed with “ANN” and a puffin. A memorial urn beneath a willow on the far right. The reverse scrimmed with the figure of Lady Liberty standing beside a harpooner, a displayed eagle between them. A pod of sperm whales to the left, and a whaling dory in pursuit to the right. SIZE: 22-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: From a Private West Coast Collection. CONDITION: Very good with light surface soiling. 9-28602 (1,000-1,500)
