CHINESE EXPORT LACQUERED TEA CADDY, FINE REGENCY TORTOISE SEWING BOX, AND A FRENCH CUT-GLASS TRINKET BOX. Circa 1780-1850. The red lacquered tea caddy gilt-decorated with domestic scenes, of rectangular form with canted corners and domed lid, fitted with a pair of pewter canisters with lids. The tortoise shell sewing kit in the form of a knife box, the angled hinged lid opening to a silk-lined compartmented interior, retaining the original thimble, scissors, measuring tape canister, pencil, etc., all with silver brightwork, the case with concave sides and serpentine front. The mid-19th century cut-glass Continental or French trinket box with canted corners and filigreed brass-banded rims, the lock with a tooled brass escutcheon. SIZE: Tea caddy: 5-1/4″ h. x 8-3/4″ l. x 6″ d. Sewing box: 4″ h. x 2-1/2″ l. x 2″ d. Cut-glass box: 4″ h. x 6″ l. x 3-3/4″ d. PROVENANCE: From a fine coastal Maine private collection. CONDITION: The tea caddy with dry crackled surfaces, wear to gilding, and losses around edges, otherwise good. The sewing box with original surfaces, in very good condition.
