TWO SCRIMSHAW WHALE’S TEETH. Mid-20th century, New England. The first titled “BREACHING THE BLOCK” above the scene of a harpooned whale. The reverse with lines of verse signed “The writer CHARLES BLACKMER”. The second, smaller tooth, titled “Praise Ye the Lord” within a cartouche. The reverse depicting a harpooned small whale being eaten by a large sperm whale. SIZE: First: 7″ l. Second: 6-1/4″ l. PROVENANCE: From a private California collection. CONDITION: Both teeth with nicely polished surfaces. Larger tooth with chip at tip. Otherwise good. 9-28627, 9-28637 (1,200-2,000)
