THREE SCRIMSHAW WHALE’S TEETH. Mid-20th century, New England. The largest, depicting a portrait of the “WHITE SLAVE GIRL ZANZIBAR 1879” shown as a nude in shackles, a serpent erect before her. The reverse philosophical prose. The second titled “NEW BEDFORD EAGLE HOTEL/J.P. to PR 1863”. The reverse scrimmed with a guardian angel posed on a plinth reading “WHALER’S REST/1860”. The third scrimmed with a 3-masted whaling ship in rough seas. The reverse depicting a single rose above a heart above a banner scrimmed “TRUE LOVE”. SIZE: 1) 8″ l. 2) 7″ l. 3) 5″ l.
