ATTRIBUTED TO HERMANN GUSTAV SIMON (American, 1846-1895) THE STUBBORN MULE. Oil on canvas genre scene shows one man pulling on a mule, the other is pushing with no result. They stand on a dirt area next to water with two flat boats. Inscribed “Jan 1 1881″ and signed on reverse of stretcher which is period to the painting. Housed in a fine gilt wood frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 17-1/2″ x 22-1/2”. CONDITION: Very good. 9-20683 (1,000-1,500)
