RARE CARVED FIGURAL TRADE SIGN. Circa 1880, New England. This carved pine table or counter top sign, probably used as an interior welcome sign for an inn or tavern. Depicting a man in period dress with walking stick, right arm raised in a welcoming gesture. Carved in a flattened half round form, mounted to its original chamfered base. SIZE: 22″ h. CONDITION: Very good with original dry polychrome painted surfaces intact. Small glued repair of original piece, proper right side of hat, where reattached. 9-27785 (1,000-1,500)
