GROUP OF FOUR SCRIMSHAW ITEMS. Late 19th-Mid-20th century, American. 1) Walrus tusk scrimmed with a scene of a sailing ship and a light house. The reverse depicting a whale beneath a sky filled with seagulls. 2) Inlaid ivory goblet scrimmed on foot rim “CAPTAIN’S TABLE/FRIGATE-MECHANIC”. 3) Silver serving skewer, hallmarked, with an ivory handle scrimmed with the presentation “PRESENTED TO/CAPT. J.P. JOHNSON BY/PROUD FELLOW OFFICERS/IN APPRECIATION OF A BRAVE/AMERICAN JULY 1878”. The reverse of the handle scrimmed with crossed swords and the insignia “U S 7”. 4) A magnifying glass, the handle of which is a carved bone caricature inset with eyes of purple stone scrimmed with the message “Award to/ALAN PINKERTON/in HONOR of the/Infamous BIG-NOSE”, the reverse “KANSAS CITY/1898”. SIZE: Goblet: 6-1/4″ h. Tusk: 21″ l. PROVENANCE: From a private California collection. CONDITION: All with untouched surfaces. Magnifying glass separated.
