TWO PALM LEAF BASKETS. First quarter 20th Century. State of Vermont. These baskets originated with Ms. Alta Davis in the early 1900’s. She formed a group of women called the “Dover Bees”. These baskets are woven from palm leaves that the group imported from the islands. Examples were sold through the Arts and Crafts Society of Boston up until the early 1920’s. The first example, in the form of a sombrero, fitted with a circular lid. The second example with round rim and rippled square tapering sides. SIZE: First 9-1/2″ dia. Second 6″ h x 9-1/2″ dia. CONDITION: Good overall with some dryness. 9-23826 (300-500)
