GROUP OF SCRIMSHAW HAIR BRUSHES. Mid-20th century, American, brushes older. Includes a pair of oval brushes polychrome scrimmed. The first “THE WHALER DIANA”. The second scrimmed with the great seal of the United States. A brush with handle titled “CAPTAIN BOONE U.S.N. FROM ALFRED DAY U.S.N. RET.”. Also with polychrome scrimmed British and American flags. A long brush scrimmed with a figure of a klansman with hood and sword beneath a flaming cross and with verse. Last, a pair of hair brushes, each scrimmed with the portraits of the owners “MRS. EMILY POTTS” and “CAPTAIN R. POTTS”. SIZE: From 8″ to 5″ l. PROVENANCE: From a private California collection.
