UNUSUAL NEW ENGLAND SHERATON MAPLE AND BIRCH SEWING TABLE. Second quarter 19th century, probably of Maine origin, the rectangular top with rounded notched corners above the conforming case fitted with a single drawer, above a bag drawer fitted with dovetailed box compartment, the whole raised on tapering cylindrical legs with ring turnings on suppressed ball feet. SIZE: 26″ h. x 17-3/4″ w. x 20″ d. PROVENANCE: From a fine Beacon Hill and Thomaston estate. CONDITION: Retains old cleaned original surfaces and hardware. The unusual box-like sewing “bag”, although of hand dovetailed construction, most likely not original as the “bag” frame shows evidence that a fabric bag may have been originally attached to it. 9-93628 (1,200-1,800)
