APPLIQUE QUILT AND PAISLEY TABLECLOTH. Late 19th-early 20th century. The coverlet with each unique panel wrought in red thread, The White House in the center, flanked by likenesses of President and Mrs. William McKinley, Mr. & Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt, James A. Garfield, Admiral Dewey, Queen Victoria, Rear Admiral Sampson USN, Native American “Gentle Bird”, a Sioux Chief, a displayed eagle, a Stars-and-Stripes shield, Little Red Riding Hood and other nursery rhyme figures along with various animals and plants. The tablecloth, made in India, of typical form with a rectangular turquoise central medallion filled with polychrome floral sprays, surrounded by reds, blues, and greens in paisley design. SIZE: Quilt: 79″ x 63-1/2″. Tablecloth: 120″ x 65″. PROVENANCE: From a coastal Maine estate. CONDITION: The quilt with some deterioration and staining on bottom third. The tablecloth very good overall, with several small holes in border areas. 9-93933 (800-1,200)
