W. SCHAUS (Publisher, 19th Century American) “THE BONE PLAYER”. Colored lithograph by “Lafosse, IMP. by Fois Delarue, Paris. Published by W. Schaus, New York 1857”. After a painting by William S. Mount. Scene shows a black man in colorful blue coat with red bow tie seated in chair with both hands held up playing two carved ivory bones in each hand. Outstanding reproduction frame has molded gilt outer frame with inner linen liner and gilt wood border. Fine ivory matte. Reference: Illustrated as figure 47 in William Sidney Mount by Cowdrey & Williams 1944. SIGHT SIZE: 29-1/2” x 23”. CONDITION: Four tears in margin. Two of which go into image, one appears to be restored. Strong color. 1-28800 (6,500-8,500)
