RUFUS PIERCE, MASSACHUSETTS, LABELED SHERATON MAHOGANY CARD TABLE. Circa 1830. The rectangular figured hinged D-form top, swiveling above the concave molded conforming frieze, stamped in four locations with stenciled mark of Rufus Pierce: “RUFUS PIERCE/Furniture/Ware.House/No. 17 Market St./BOSTON.”, raised on a lyre-form pedestal bordered by scrolling leaftips, joined to a base of leaftips on a rectangular plinth with incurved sides, continuing to and raised on four outswept curved legs, the knees in the form of acanthus-carved scrolled corbels, the legs terminating in carved claw feet raised on brass casters. SIZE: 29-3/4″ h. x 35-1/2″ w. x 17-3/4″ d. CONDITION: In fine original condition, retaining old surfaces with very nice patina. The fixed top with acceptable and old shrinkage cracks. 9-94361 (4,000-6,000)
