RARE SHAKER BUTTER CHURN. First third 19th century, New York or Massachusetts. This diminutive example with lollipop handle and tapered cylindrical body with buttonhole bands. The inset carved rim fitted with notch for handle and chamfered. The dasher with slightly swelled handle and base. Note: We believe this churn originated in either Lebanon, New York or possibly Hancock, Massachusetts. It was found in the New York capitol region. SIZE: Overall: 25″ h. Top: 7-1/2″ dia. Base: 9″ dia. CONDITION: Retains original dry red-painted surface with age appropriate wear and minor abrasions and with very fine patina and early partial loss to disc portion of dasher.
