GEORGE HENRY SMILLIE (American, 1840-1921) “MY LADY’S BOWER”. Oil on board miniature landscape scene shows a man and woman near stone stairway with urns of flowers with trees and church in background. A figural park size fountain is seen in foreground all under a blue and white cloud sky. A piece of paper on back of board has title and in pencil “My first painting probably 1860 Geo. H. Smillie (1917). Rectangular panel is painted with a rounded sky for shaped matte. Housed in a rectangular frame with simulated tortoise shell design and having a glass back to view inscription. SIZE: 5″ x 3-3/4”. PROVENANCE: From an old Southern Maine collection. CONDITION: Very good. 9-94156 (800-1,200)
