UNSIGNED (British, 19th Century) VISITING THE ORGAN GRINDER. Oil on canvas scene shows an elderly man and woman standing in front of a monkey on a table. The two people have colorful outfits and the monkey is dressed in a little soldiers outfit and there are various articles around the table that the monkey sits on including drum, gun, stein, dog, wine, cabinet, etc. There is a label affixed to the back stretcher from “W Boote & Sons Liverpool”. Housed in a wonderful and possibly original period gesso decorated frame with gilt liner and glass front. PROVENANCE: From a Belgrade Lakes, Maine home. SIZE: 19-3/4” x 16-3/4”.
