RECLINING OR “SEATED” BUFFALO BRONZE AFTER ROBERT ELWELL. Large reclining bronze of a bull buffalo laying upright on a rocky/soil base which is mounted on a 2″ thick green marble base. Base is about 16-3/4″ long x about 9″ wide and the buffalo stands about 10″ including base. Bronze is unsigned but is identical to one viewed on the internet which is titled “Seated Buffalo” by Robert Elwell. Front of the base is mounted with a small brass plate inscribed “Buffalo Lying / by Elwell”. This is a fine representation of a mature, old spring bull buffalo with patches of shedding hair across his belly & rump. Right horn is slightly mismounted. CONDITION: Very fine. Overall retains virtually all of its fine dark brown foundry patina. 4-40606 JR193 (1,500-2,500)
