UNSIGNED (Mid 19th Century) PORTRAIT OF A PEASANT GIRL. Oil on wood panel shows a sanding child with bare feet wearing a blue dress and having a red cloth around her shoulders. She holds a hat in her left hand and looks toward viewer with a wide eyed gaze. A landscape scene is in background with house and the setting sun. Housed in what appears to be its original mahogany veneered Empire frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 27-1/2″ x 22″. PROVENANCE: From an old Southern Maine collection. CONDITION: Panel is split down center and held by tape, extremely dirty. Otherwise very good. It appears that if cleaned it will brighten up substantially. 9-94146 (500-1,000)
