EARLY FLINTLOCK TINDER LIGHTER. SN NSN. This early piece has large iron box for tinder, covered by broad frizzen with friction spring. Externally mounted lock has angular cock. Sear extends around body to form trigger. Walnut stock has long curve, forming pistol grip that serves as third leg of tripod stand. The other two are iron, and under tinderbox. Stock is relief carved with scroll and acanthus on top. There is a hanging hook on left side of box. CONDITION: Good. Metal parts are dark pitted patina. One of the front legs has been welded. End of pistol grip shows years of wear. A very interesting and archaic looking piece. 4-40222 MGM166 (2,500-4,000)
