VICTORIAN SHELLWORK WREATH. 2nd half 19th century. This fine example mounted in its original deep oak frame features a horseshoe shaped wreath comprised of several varieties of small shells fashioned in the form of blooming flowers and a butterfly, all laid on a bed of multicolored moss. REFERENCE: A Scene of Adornment, Decoration in the Victorian Home (see article “Skills of Leisure”, pp. 38-65). SIZE: Wreath: 12″ x 12″ sight. Frame: 19″ x 16-3/4″. CONDITION: Original frame, glass and shellwork very good overall. Some flowerheads in need of re-attachment to backing. 9-99125 (400-600)
