ESSENTIALLY UNTOUCHED CLARKSON BRASS BARRELED BLUNDERBUSS. SN NSN. Cal. 650 Bore diameter. 1″ at muzzle. 15-1/2″ Barrel with octagonal breech tapering to step and then straight to flared cannon muzzle, is stamped at breech with London gunmakers proofs and barrelmakers mark “IR?” (John Rimes?) surmounted by sovereign crown. Breech plug is iron. Iron lock with friction frizzen and serpentine cock has fleur-de-lis termination to frizzen spring, border engraving with scroll toward tail with “Clarkson” in front of cock. Brass trigger guard has floral engraving on double beaded bow, and nicely shaped and finished acorn finial. Thimble and ramrod pipe are also brass, as are buttplate, sideplate, and shell appointed crest plate at top of wrist. Sideplate is decoratively filed with border engraving and central scroll. European walnut stock has deeply fluted comb and gracefully curved toe line. Area around rear of breech iron has raised relief carving with shell termination. Hickory ramrod has brass end. CONDITION: This fine little coach gun is in remarkable untouched condition. All brass has deep patina with bronze highlights, except for sideplate, which may have been cleaned many years ago, as it is slightly brighter. Lockplate has darkened to brown. Other steel parts show light pinprick pitting, and are brown. Stock shows most of its oil finish with very few marks or dings. Grip area has fine glow.
