UNUSUAL B. WOODWARD PERCUSSION BRASS CANNON BARREL BLUNDERBUSS WITH FOLDING BAYONET. SN NSN. Cal. .652 Bore diameter. 1.435″ at muzzle. This unusual late blunderbuss has 14″ barrel with “London” engraved on top flat of octagonal rear portion. There is a wide wedding band transition to round portion, and with quick flare to muzzle. Percussion breech is cast in place and has high fences. Triangular spring-loaded folding steel bayonet is retained by thumbpiece on top of iron breech plug. Back action lock has flat percussion hammer, and is engraved with open flowing scroll and “B. Woodward & Son”. Furniture is of brass, and is scroll engraved. Remnants of mahogany ramrod is in beaded brass pipes. Faux finished streaked stock is French polished. In a check of all London references, there is no mention of a firm trading as B. Woodward and Sons. CONDITION: Very good. Brass retains old polish and patina. Iron parts show considerable oxidation, and are gray and brown. Stock finish is near excellent with numerous small marks and knocks. Lock is crisp. 4-40203 MGM68 (3,500-4,500)
