FEDERAL STYLE EAGLE INLAID MAHOGANY TAMBOUR DESK. Late 19th, early 20th century, Massachusetts. In two parts, the upper section with rectangular molded crest above an inlaid frieze over a centered prospect door with inlaid eagle patera opening to drawers and cubby hole flanked by tambour doors, each opening to an arrangement of short drawers over valanced compartments. Set back on the lower case with quarter round moldings. The base with hinged baize-lined writing surface supported on lopers centering two long drawers, all string inlaid, raised on tapered inlaid legs. SIZE: 46″ h x 36-1/2″ w x 18-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: By descent through the Walter Rothschild family of New York. CONDITION: Original surfaces. Proper right front leg with repair. Otherwise good. 9-27910 (400-600)
