MISCELLANEOUS LOT OF CIVIL WAR GAMES. This lot consists of playing cards, dice, chips, and a mid-19th C. doll. 1) Two decks of Great Mogul playing cards made in Belgium with their orig wrappers depicting a king with a blue eagle trademark stamped on the wrapper reading “THE CELEBRATED EAGLE BRAND.” One pack is printed in blue and gold, the other in red and gold. CONDITION: Probably unused with orig wrappers. 2) One deck of “Union cards,” a full deck of playing cards, the backs of which are printed with a stand of flags, fowled anchor, and American shield. The faces depict Union officers and Lady Liberty as face cards. Suits are flags, eagles, shields, and stars. All are contained in a paste board slip box printed with Lady Liberty on the face and a motto which reads “NATIONAL EMBLEMS!! SOMETHING NEW IN THE CARD WORLD!! TIME FOR A CHANGE! FOREIGN EMBLEMS USED LONG ENOUGH IN THE U.S. NATIONALITY EVERYTHING!!” Manufactured by the American Card Company, dated 1862 in New York. CONDITION: Very good. Colors are strong. Pasteboard box is in very good condition with scuffing and wear to the edges. 3) Unmarked reproduction deck of early-19th C. playing cards. CONDITION: Fine. 4) Boxed deck of Union Generals playing cards made c. 1970 by the Smithsonian Institution, being a reproduction of a Civil War period deck in their collection with the faces of union generals and backs depicting a patriotic military motif. 4) A tin set of 2 decks of Gone with the Wind playing cards, made in China. The face of one deck depicts Scarlet O’Hara; the other deck Rhett Butler, in a tin printed case with a scene from the movie. CONDITION: Unused. 5) A pair of Civil War period bone dice, measuring about 2/8” square, another pair slightly larger, measuring 3/8” square, and a third pair measuring 1/2” square. CONDITION: All are excellent. 6) Five excavated lead poker chips, fashioned from flattened bullets. CONDITION: Oxidized. 7) Mid to late 19th C. painted china head doll. The shoulders of the doll are decorated in gold and named “Berthy.” Sewn body with ceramic hands and feet. Silk undergarments with lace edges.
