H. E. DIMICK ST. LOUIS PLAINS RIFLE. SN NSN. Cal..510 Groove diameter. A competitor of the Hawken Brothers, Dimock’s rifles were well regarded by the frontiersmen. In the early 1850’s his company became “Dimock and Folsom”. This classic rifle from his early St. Louis days, is stamped “H. E. Dimick St. Louis” on top flat of 36″ tapered octagonal barrel, with iron under-rib. Buckhorn rear sight and German silver bladed copper base front, are dovetailed through top bbl. Hook type patent breech has snail filed bolster. Breech iron has long tail. Plain front action percussion lock has broad flat serpentine hammer. Classic spur trigger guard with scrolled pistol grip extension, is iron, as is crescent buttplate, and plain return. Ovoid iron patchbox is inlet on right side of classic American walnut fiddle figured stock, and is hinged at bottom. Forestock attaches to bbl with two side nails through oval German silver escutcheons. Forepiece tip is cast pewter. Hickory ramrod is held by two plain pipes. CONDITION: Good. All metal has dark brown patina, with a few knocks and marks, some deep, in bbl. Stock retains most of an old oil finish and is quite pleasing. Ramrod is a replacement. Lock is mushy, but works. Set triggers work. Bore is rusted but rifling evident. Should clean. 4-40667 MGM163 (6,000-10,000)
