SCARCE N. CURRY HENRY DERINGER PEANUT SIZE PERCUSSION PISTOL. SN NONE. Cal. 40. Tiny vest pocket size Deringer pistol with 1-1/2″ ovoid shaped bbl, dovetailed German silver front sight and fixed rear sight on top tang. Top flat of breech plug & lockplate are marked “DERINGER PHILADELA” with the sunburst “P” proof on top left flat of breech plug. Top flat of bbl is marked “N. CURRY & BRO / SAN FRANCO CALA / AGENTS”. Mounted in a 1-pc walnut stock with checkered bird head grip and German silver furniture with hinged lid cap box butt trap. Top tang, lockplate, sideplate, hammer & trigger guard are very nicely engraved in foliate arabesque patterns. Bbl is secured with a sgl wedge through bow tie shaped escutcheons that are engraved to match. Thumb plate on top of wrist is also engraved to match. These tiny Deringer pistols are rarely encountered today, especially in nice orig condition. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 75-80% thin orig brown with some gold streaks remaining. Lockplate & hammer are dark case colors with a broken nipple. Stock has a hairline in the toe, otherwise wood is sound with light nicks & scratches showing moderate wear and retains a fine hand worn patina over about 75% orig finish.
