J. R. HUNT BRANDED BIRDCAGE WINDSOR ARMCHAIR. Circa 1810. The seven-spindle simulated bamboo armchair, the grips with scrolled volutes, now in a dark green paint over an earlier cream paint, branded at rear of seat bottom “J.R.HUNT/MAKER”. REFERENCE: American Cabinetmakers, Marked American Furniture, 1640-1940, by William C. Ketchum, Jr., p. 177: “The Windsor chair manufacturer Joseph Ruggles Hunt (1781-1871) worked in Eaton (now Madison), New Hampshire, c. 1811-1860. His chairs are stamped beneath the seat J.R.HUNT/MAKER.” SIZE: 33-1/2″ h. of back x 18″ h. of seat x 21″ overall w. CONDITION: With old crusty painted surfaces.
