MEDIUM SIZE HENRY DERINGER PERCUSSION PISTOL. SN NONE. Cal. 45. Fine Deringer pistol with 2-7/8″ ovoid shape bbl, tiny German silver front sight & fixed rear sight on top tang. Top flat of breech plug & lockplate are marked “DERINGER / PHILADEL’A”. Left top flat of breech plug is marked with the sunburst “P” proof. Pistol is mounted in a 1-pc walnut stock with checkered bird head grip & German silver furniture. Lockplate, hammer, top tang & trigger guard are very nicely engraved in foliate arabesque patterns. Trigger plate has a stepped, engraved foliate finial and it has a German silver nose cap with teardrop shaped inlay in butt. Top of wrist has an empty shield shaped thumb plate. Bbl has an iron rib on bottom and its orig brass tipped hickory ramrod with steel slotted end wiping jag in the concealed end. Bbl is secured with a sgl wedge through bow tie shaped escutcheons. These were very popular pistols especially for gentlemen as coat pocket backup side arms. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains most of its orig dark brown finish with silvery lines. Lockplate & hammer retain most of their orig, lightly faded case colors. Stock is sound showing moderate wear and retains about 75% orig finish.
