HALF HULL MODEL OF THE WHALING SHIP “SCOTLAND”. Late 19th- early 20th century, America. Carved from the solid, the pine model with engineer’s markings painted with black hull, natural pine below the water line, mounted on an oak plank within a molded frame. Painted inscription on plaque reads: “Whale Ship Scotland 384 t, built in Nantucket, 1845. Mounted on the verso is a paper label that reads “Sailed Oct 31st, 1845 Capt. Verannus Smith Returned Feb 8th 1851, with 2,660 barrels sperm oil, sold to New Bedford 1857″. SIZE: Board: 11″ h x 40-1/4”. CONDITION: Very good. 9-27431 (800-1,200)
