EXTRAORDINARILY RARE SEALED CARTON OF FRANKFORD ARSENAL 50-70 CARTRIDGES. Fabulous and incredibly rare packet of cartridges, 6″ long x 3-1/8″ wide x 2-1/2″ high, sealed in brown paper with printed black lettering “40 / CENTRE-PRIMED, METALLIC / CARTRIDGES, / CALIBRE, .50. / CHARGE, 70 GRAINS MUSKET POWDER. / WEIGHT OF BULLET, 450 GRAINS. / FRANKFORD ARSENAL, / 1867.”. The printing is outlined in a simple black border with decorative corners. The paper wrapping includes its orig, untouched cloth pull string. These cartridges were obviously produced for the 1866 Trapdoor Allin conversion Springfield rifle/musket. This cataloger has in excess of 50 years experiences buying & selling collectible ammunition and this is the first and only packet of these cartridges ever encountered. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Paper wrapping has one or two small breaks in the edges but is nearly completely intact with light soil and yellowing of the paper.
