PAIR OF TOLE CANISTER LAMPS IN THE ORIENTAL TASTE. Mid 19th Century England. These tole decorated canisters used for tea transport and storage numbered 4 and 5. One decorated with a figure smoking a pipe in front of a tea crate within gilt decorated borders black ground. The second canister showing a figure dressed in tunic carrying two bundles suspended from a yoke. Now mounted as lamps. SIZE: Canister 16″ h. Lamp 24″ h. PROVENANCE: From a fine New Jersey home. CONDITION: With some repainting and some losses to tole surfaces. Generally good. 9-24556 (1,500-2,500)
