NEW ENGLAND FEDERAL INLAID MAHOGANY CARD TABLE, PROBABLY MAINE. Circa 1810. The hinged top of unusual form with bowed center and incurved ends with straight sides, the edges crossbanded, above the conforming frieze with string inlaid oval panels, raised on square tapered legs, crossbanded and with stringing. SIZE: 29-1/4″ h. x 34-1/2″ w. x 17″ d. PROVENANCE: A handwritten paper glued to the underside of the fixed top in script reads: “This table I give to Edward Payson George my precious, adorable grandson. It was his great, great, grandmothers – June L. Schenck. Signed Elizabeth Turner.” By descent through the family, Thomaston, Maine. From a fine Beacon Hill and Thomaston estate. CONDITION: Retains original finish with good color, some minor lifting of apron veneers and small strip of crossbanding. Old braces inside of apron at rear legs.
