UNIQUE FOLK ART CARVING OF NAPOLEON ON HORSEBACK. Circa 1832. According to family lore this statuette was carved from the solid by the grandfather of the then owner, Edwin D. Streb of Canton, OH. It depicts the French General astride his stallion, in the act of balking, its tail between its hind legs. The carving was executed while his grandfather was emigrating to the United States onboard ship from Alsace-Lorraine. The piece is polychrome painted which we strongly feel is later than the date of the original carving. SIZE: 11-3/4″ h x 10-1/2″ l x 5-1/4″ w.
