RARE EDWARDIAN PRESENTATION WALKING STICK OF EQUESTRIAN INTEREST. Fitted to the cylindrical hardwood shaft with silver collar, London circa 1904, maker’s mark “J.H.”. Engraved “From D. Altson to Geo. C. Tagg, Esq.” Joined to an elk horn handle. The handle is fastened to an unusual square measuring stick, at the top of which is hinged a brass rod with level: the purpose of which is to measure the height of a horse in hands. The brass rod designed to be extended to right angles to the measuring stick and placed on the horse’s shoulder. A truly rare and unique item. SIZE: Closed: 36-1/2″ l. Extent of scale: 7 hands.
