TWO U.S. MEDALS. 1. 4″ diameter bronze Hudson Fulton medallion. The American Numismatic Society by Emil Fuchs (Austrian/English/American, 1866-1929), 1909. Signed on edge “Whitehead Hoag” with recipient’s name “Dorothy G. Stewart”. Medallion has on one side a scene of three women holding various marine items, the central figure holding a ship, under a portrait of Robert Fulton with New York scene in background. The other side having figures aboard a ship, stating on the outer rim “Discovery of Hudson River by Henry Hudson”. 2. A 1-1/2″ diameter silver medal from the New York Times Lincoln Essay Contest. One side with Lincoln’s profile in relief with inscription “With malice towards none, with charity for all, Feb. 12, 1809 1909”. The back “Awarded by the New York Times to Dorothy G. Stewart for Merit Essay on Abraham Lincoln 1909”, signed by the maker “Tiffany & Co.” The medal having its original loop and a snake-style chain. Weight of Medal: 22 grams.
