CASED PAIR OF RODDA PERCUSSION SIDE HAMMER BOXLOCK BELT PISTOLS. SN 1802/ 1802. Cal. .645. 5″ Octagonal twist barrels with silver bead front sights, are engraved “R. B. Rodda & Co. Piccadilly London.” on top flats. Case hardened, nicely scroll filed patent breeches have square shouldered nipples, and light scroll engraving. Bottoms of barrel assemblies have blued steel under-ribs with swivel mounted steel ramrods. Case hardened boxlock actions have filed-in V rear sights, scroll engraving with SNs (1802) on tangs. Trigger guard bows have matching scroll. Left sides of actions are mounted with blued steel belt hooks. Stocks have nearly full coverage of very fine (32 LPI) square checkering, with uncheckered diamond behind tangs and vacant silver ovals at centers. Stocks terminate in case hardened steel trap grip caps. Caps are engraved with large flowers. Original mahogany case has inlet hook latches and inlaid brass circular medallion on lid. Interior is lined in dark green baize cloth with Rodda paper label, and contains greenheart loading rod with ebony tip and brass tail, nutcracker type ball mold stamped “14”, bone cap bottle, and 9 lead balls in covered compartment. Compartment lid has India ink marked with “R? 10 of 70”, and what appears to be SN. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 60-70% original brown with some areas darkening. Breech plugs and actions retain 70% original case hardening color, that has darkened. Under-ribs and ramrods have nearly all their original blue, somewhat flaked. Trigger guards have most of their blue, and grip caps nearly all of their case color. Belt hooks retain most of their bright blue. Hammer and hammer screw on one gun are definite replacements; the other hammer is probably replaced, although of the correct style, its condition is not commensurate with remainder of gun. It is also a bit loose on tumbler. Locks are relatively crisp. Bores are browned. Case is excellent. Interior cloth is fine. Central compartment partitions are quite loose. Accessories are fine. Label is bright, but printing is faded considerably (insect damage). 4-40214 MGM101 (3,000-5,000)
