MASSACHUSETTS CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY OXBOW SLANT-LID DESK. Late 18th century. The rectangular case with hinged sloping thumbmolded lid of figured mahogany, opening to an interior fitted with a full bank of thirteen string inlaid drawers of varying sizes, over four long reverse serpentine drawers, all string inlaid, on a molded base raised on boldly carved ball and talon feet with ogee shaped returns. SIZE: 45″ h. x 41-1/4″ w. x 25″ d. CONDITION: Retains old finish and hardware. Backboards and feet original. Feet in need of professional restoration. Blocks and returns are loose, need re-gluing. Brass hardware appears to be original, no evidence of movement. 9-93881 (4,000-6,000)
