RARE “POPEYE THE SAILOR” ROWBOAT BY HOGE MFG. Elusive, impressive, of large scale, this rare toy from the 1930s would be the centerpiece of any Popeye collection. 15″ in length, Popeye is seated within the rowboat, his feet resting upon the wind-up motor that propels him through the water while he is rowing. Finely lithographed tin Popeye similar in nature to the Chein version Popeye with parrot cages, this fellow vigorously replicates the action of a man rowing a boat all while puffing away on his pipe extending from the left side of his mouth. Original rhombic shaped decal on bow of boat along with original aluminum rudder on rear of boat. SIZE: 15″ l (without rudder). CONDITION: Overall condition very fine plus. Original oars lacking, but two Joe Freeman replacement oars accompany this toy. Mechanism in working order. 1-8519 JL (3,500-5,500)
