LARGE TOBACCO BASKET “WALLACE SMITHFIELD”, TOGETHER W/2 ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES. Late 19th century. The first of square form, woven with oak slats, bent to form, basket rim with stenciled name “WALLACE SMITHFIELD” on all four sides. The second, a rectangular example woven with thin slats in hexagonal pattern. The third, a square example of basic shallow form. SIZE: 1ST: 39″ x 39-1/2″. 2ND: 11-1/2″ d. x 36-1/2″ l. x 27″ w. 3RD: 4-3/4″ h. x 32″ x 31″. CONDITION: The first good overall, retaining original unfinished surfaces; one slat with damage, some wear and tear overall from usage. The second good overall, with minor imperfections.
