Breech irons have filed in V-notch sights, and are nicely engraved with geometric borders. Locks are polished bright, and engraved with very finely cut sprigs and acanthus with quiver of arrows behind cocks. “Peniet a Paris” is engraved under pans. Triggers are set. Steel furniture is bright polished and nicely filed. Sideplates mount two lock screws, and are engraved with scroll and acanthus. Trigger guards have urn finials. Grip caps are engraved with lightning bolts emanating from clouds. Nicely streaked European walnut stocks extend to muzzles and mount to bbls with two side nails, without escutcheons. Horn ramrods mount through polygonal beaded pipes, tailpipes have acanthus finials. Wrap-around square flat top checkering has mullered and carved crenulated borders. Walnut and mahogany case has key lock closure, and is lined in dark green baize with later greenish baize additions, and contains a fine array of original accessories. Accessories include boxwood and brass loading rod/ powder measure combination, another mahogany loading ramrod, turned boxwood loading mallet, walnut-handled steel combination screwdriver, translucent horn-sided brass-mounted powder flask, nicely filed steel ball mold with sprue nipper, octagonal steel oil bottle with nicely turned top, and filed steel vent pick. There are three covered compartments, one with wads, another with balls, and a third with flints. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain virtually all of their original bright blue, and their gold wash. Steel furniture and locks are mostly still bright with lock tails and grip caps darkening. Stocks retain nearly all of their French polish finish with only a few marks. There is a small sliver of wood missing from left muzzle of one gun. Ramrods have some insect damage. Locks and frizzens are crisp. Bores are excellent. Exterior of case is fine showing most of its original finish. Interior cloth has been mostly replaced. The case lining needs a bit of attention. Original cloth shows insect damage, and is quite dusty. Accessories are excellent. Fine examples of French gun making at its best. 4-40051 MGM152 (10,000-15,000)
