ASTON MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION PISTOL. SN NSN. Cal. 54. Usual configuration with 8-1/2″ rnd bbl, elliptical German silver front sight, mounted in a 1-pc walnut stock with tin-plated bbl & furniture. Lockplate has standard Aston markings with the date “1849”. Bbl has the “JH” and “P” proofs in breech area with the Navy anchor & inspector initials obliterated with corrosion. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains 50-60% milky tin plating with the exposed metal dark brown patina. Moderately to heavily pitted around nipple area. Lockplate & hammer retain about 50% tin plating with the exposed area smooth dark patina. Brass furniture retains 60-70% thin tin plating. Stock is sound and shows heavy wear with the outline of two cartouches on left side panel and retains most of a light refinish. Mechanics are fine, dark pitted bore. 4-40973 JR326 (2,000-3,000)
