FULL BODIED COPPER “SMUGGLER” WEATHERVANE. Late 19th century, Massachusetts. Attributed to A.L. Jewell & Co. The full body horse with cutout mouth, sheet copper ears, and noticeably bulbous eyes, the full bodied tail fitted with sheet copper ends. With old gilt surface beneath later paint. Offered with museum stand on rod with copper ball. SIZE: Approximately 19-1/2″ h x 34″ l. 72″ h overall (including stand). PROVENANCE: From a private Waterville, Maine collection. CONDITION: Tail probably reattached to body. In need of cosmetic restoration to tighten seams and connections. With slight separation at end of snout.
